The Unite and Union Brass Band

Grimsby Central Hall will echo to the sound of brass when Unite the Union Brass Band makes its debut appearance at the venue.

Many brass bands enjoy a rich heritage and this one is no exception; formed in 1900, it has performed under a number of names including City of Sheffield Band.

In recent years, strong links with the union Unite, through the band’s involvement with the Durham Miner’s Gala, led to a formal sponsorship arrangement and a new name.

Under the directorship of Derek Renshaw, the band has acquired a new sense of purpose and professionalism; reflected by the growing number of prizes in the band’s trophy cabinet. In the highly competitive world of brass bands, 2012 proved a very successful year for “Unite”; first becoming Yorkshire Area 1st Section Champions and then claiming the crown as 1st Sectional National Champions.

Unite the Union Brass Band will be playing on Saturday, April 6. Tickets cost £12, £10 and £8 from 01472 355025.
