Choral society explores three composers’ music

Market Rasen & District Choral Society is enjoying a new lease of life.

The Choir has never been conservative in its repertoire but this season they have explored the work of three living composers, all very different.

At Christmas, they sang a setting of the Poet Laureate’s interpretation of the Christmas story and now they are about to perform Bob Chilcott’s ‘A Little Jazz Mass’ and Zimbe! by Alexander L’Estrange.

And if you think ‘Jazz’ and ‘Mass’ are incompatible ideas, think again - better still go along to the concert, which is set to raise the roof of De Aston Sports Hall at 7pm on Saturday, May 9.

Zimbe! is full of catchy rhythms and tunes - a celebration of African Gospel Music - which has got them all moving and clapping in a very ‘un-English’ way.

The singers will be joined by children from eight
local schools too, which
will also be taking part in
the performance.

And conducting the performance is its composer, accompanied by the ‘Call me Al’ Jazz Quintet.

Tickets are £10 on the door or in advance from 01673 842619, The Gift Horse’ and ‘Jacques Hardware’ in Market Rasen and ‘The Post Office’ in Caistor.
