Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to perform at The Baths Hall, Scunthorpe EMN-150904-152122001

Following on from a very successful season at The Baths Hall last year, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is returning to Scunthorpe on Saturday April 25.

And the Orchestra will be kick-starting their new season with a patriotic St George’s Day celebration of music from some of England’s finest composers.

Opening with the triumphant sound of Walton’s celebratory Crown Imperial march, there is no better curtain raiser to the festivities.

Led by British conductor Nick Davies and featuring solos from co-leader of the orchestra and violinist, Duncan Riddell, the concert will then take on a distinctly Pastoral theme by featuring two extraordinary works by Vaughan Williams.

Both evoke glorious images of English countryside through the beautiful soaring sound of the solo violin in his The Lark Ascending and in the lush resonance of a full string orchestra in his stunning Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

The Blitz spirit will resonate throughout the evening with Walton’s Spitfire: Prelude and Fugue and Coates’ Dam Buster’s March.

And finally, no St George’s Day concert would be complete without Prom favourite and quintessentially British piece, Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March.
