Combine heritage and fun with a visit to the new-look Lincoln Castle, which open earlier this month following a £22 million refurbishment.

And one of the highlights is the new home for the Magna Carta and Charter of the Forest - the David P J Ross Magna Carta Vault - the only place in the world where they can be viewed together.

There is also a widescreen cinema where you can immerse yourself in the story of King John and the barons.

The newly-refurbished Victorian Prison - closed to the public for decades - now includes films, panels and digital interactive screens exploring prison life.

And for the first time, visitors can walk the full circumference of the great stone circle wall, one of the most dramatic features of Lincoln Castle and a permanent reminder of its role as a mighty medieval stronghold.

The castle offers three different types of visitor experience: an all-inclusive ticket for the whole site and a free return visit within six months; a combined ticket for Magna Carta and the Victorian Prison; or a ticket just for the Medieval Wall Walk.

There is also a new castle shop and café, offering souvenirs, gifts and refreshments.

And later this month, all ages can enjoy the St George’s Festival and medieval pageant.
