This Friday, November 28, sees the Brigg Christmas Market and switch-on of the town’s new Christmas lights.

From 4pm, the Brigg Lions Christmas Fayre will be underway in the market place, the Angel Suite and down into Wrawby Street, there will be a range of craft and charity stalls, street entertainment, dancers, carol singers and of course Father Christmas will be in his grotto.

And at 5pm, in front of the Angel, Town Mayor Edward Arnott, alongside the cast of Dick Whittington - this year’s North Lincolnshire pantomime at the Plowright Theatre, will press the magic button to switch on the Christmas lights making the town brighter than ever before.

Late-night shopping is until 9pm and the town’s business community are urging shoppers to not only support the stalls but also the businesses on their equally special night.

A series of events will then follow in the town and surrounding area over the festive period.

On Thursday December 4, Brigg County Primary School hold their Christmas Fayre in the school from 3.45pm.

On Friday December 5 at 7pm, ‘Christmas Nostalgia’ is the title of a talk by Terry Richards at Brigg Heritage Centre, with tickets £7, including mulled wine and mince pie, from 01724 296771.

On Sunday December 7 from 6pm to 8pm, and then on Saturday December 13 (7pm to 9pm) and Sunday December 14 (6pm to 8pm), Christmas Wonderland can be found at 21 Woods Meadow in Hibaldstow on Saturday December 20 from 7pm to 9pm, Sunday December 21 from 6pm to 8pm and Sunday December 28 from 6pm to 8pm. Admission is free, with donations welcome for Lindsey Lodge Hospice. Details can be obtained on 01652 656875.

The Brigg Singers will give their Christmas Concert in Brigg Methodist Church on Monday December 8 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5, including refreshments, from Brigg Tourist Information Centre.

There is more seasonal music at Barnetby Village Hall on Friday December 19 and Saturday December 20 at 7.30pm when Barnetby Silver Band holds its Christmas Concerts. Tickets cost £6, including refreshments, from 01652 688695.

And on Saturday December 20 from 9am to 3pm it is the Brigg Christmas Farmers’ Market in the Market Place with more than 30 stalls selling everything from ostrich to smoked salmon and home-made cakes to sauces.
