Organisers have announced Brigg’s Poppy Run and 10k
Military Challenge will take place again this autumn.

Last year, the event raised £6,000 and it is hoped the maximum 300 competitors will compete over the gruelling course this year.

As in 2013, the event will mark the start of the Remembrancetide period and will be held on Sunday October 26, with all proceeds again going to the Poppy Appeal in the town.

“This will be the fourth year the event has been held,” said Lew Gudgeon of the Brigg Branch of the Royal British Legion.

“We started with 100 competitors and that grew to 298 last year. This year we hope to have the maximum 300,”

Information on how to enter can be found at www.brigg10k.co.uk and Mr Gudgeon urges people to book now.

The military challenge will also be part of the event as in the past and participants will be in full uniform including boots and backpack.

Male competitors are requested to carry a 36lb/16.3kg backpack, while female runners carry 24lb/10.9kgs.

The event will start and finish in the Angel Car Park with the 10k route extending out down Cadney Road and back again.
