Pearl of an event for Ladies Luncheon Club at Market Rasen

Market Rasen Ladies Luncheon Club marked their pearl anniversary at the town's golf club.

President Diana Williams is pictured cutting the celebratory cake along with two of the longest-serving members, Joyce Rhodes and Doris Woodall, who made and iced the cake.

“This is a place to meet and enjoy time with others, and hopefully support charity, too,” said Mrs Williams.

The club started 30 years ago after the town’s Probus Club members invited their ladies to get together for coffee at the Gordon Arms.

The first lunch was held the following month and the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the years, the club has met at a number of venues – the Gordon Arms, the Cricket Club, the Social Club and the Festival Hall – but are now based at Market Rasen Golf Club, where Janet Parkinson and her team look after them on the fourth Thursday of every month.

At the anniversary lunch, Sue Robinson read a poem which had been written by founder member Queenie Spinx to mark the club’s 20th anniversary.

It brought back many memories, and everyone raised their glasses to the club’s future.
