It may be 28 years since the Chernobyl Disaster, but the effects of the world’s worst ever nuclear accident are still being felt in Belarus.
Market Rasen based charity Chernobyl Children Lifeline has organised a fundraising ball, which will take place in the White Heather at Caenby Corner next month.
“We have to let the children of Belarus know the world has not forgotten them,” said fundraiser Jeanette Fortnum.
The money raised will go towards funding a group of children to visit England this summer for four weeks respite.
“Temperatures can go to minus 40 degrees with waist high snow, wells for collecting water are frozen, many, many children live in contaminated areas having to eat contaminated food - to come to the UK is a ray of hope to even just breathe clean air,” added Jeanette.
The ball will take place on Saturday, February 22, from 7.30pm, with the dress code black tie/smart dress.
Tickets cost £30 each and include a three-course meal and disco.
There will also be a raffle and mini auction.
