After three months of closed doors, Market Rasen’s Red Lion has been reopened as an Italian-themed restaurant and bar.

Town businessman Darren Lince is behind the venture.

“I felt that there was a real gap in the market locally for an Italian Restaurant,” Mr Lince told the Market Rasen Mail, “and with The Red Lion closing it’s doors, this seemed like the ideal spot.”

And there is a familiar face heading up the new team at il Rosso Leone - former White Swan landlady Tina Scott, who is joined by head chef Ross Leighton.

Former De Aston boarder Ross is an experienced chef - having trained at The Belfry and worked at the Crab and Lobster in Thirsk, as well as the Lincoln and Castle hotels in Lincoln - now he wants to bring a taste of Italy to Market Rasen.

And manager Tina Scott is keen to encourage families to come along, as well as discerning diners.

“We are opening from 4pm Wednesday to Friday and 12 noon at the weekend to encourage families to dine together, at teatime especially,” she said.

“We have been delighted with the response so far, with many evenings being totalled booked out.”

A take-a-way pizza service is in operation, with plans to expand in the new year.

The Red Lion is also continuing with its bed and breakfast rooms, with a new sixth room opening in the New Year.
