Triathlon records tumble
COMPETITORS travelled to Brigg from all over the country to compete in The CMS Groundworks North Lincs Adventure Challenge triathlon.
The three disciplines were a 36 kilometre cycle race on the roads around Brigg, two laps in a canoe or kayak around the Brigg 'Island' on the River Ancholme and a 10k trail run finishing in Brigg Market Place.
The weather this year was a total opposite to the previous three years as light winds and a red hot sun baked all the competitors.
The race proved a real breakthrough for Scawby athlete Ian Burkinshaw. He managed to run himself into 2nd overall with a run time 41:26 with Richard Golder 02:31:03 holding off returning veteran and six times winner of this race Cumbrian Keith Longney .
The Race started from the Ancholme Leisure Centre with the 36km bike leg. First off were the Brigg based 'Lincsquad' team getting things going. The fastest bike time of the day 52:48 was posted by up and coming talent Burkinshaw.
On the Kayak leg Richard Golder, from Nottingham Kayak Club moved from 6th to 1st with a kayak time of 46mins 50secs (course record), pushing Ian Burkinshaw 55:30 down to second.
On the run, the last of the three diciplines, Richard Goulder had a three minute lead over the rest of the field.
Steve Clark from Bottesford smashed the run course record setting a time of 38:23 secs to take the overall win with a combined time of 2hours 27mins 02secs.
Michelle Higgs just managed to hold on to win the female race with a time of 3:11:34.
The days racing was a success and a big thank you was given to everyone that helped organise, marshall and support the race.
The evening was spent at the King William Scawby Brook in pink T shirts in support of Brigg Breast Cancer Support.
