Saints claim point on travels

Whilst the Scorpions were being represented at the Premier League Pairs the Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints National League side were in action fifty miles away in Newport.

Ably led by Simon Lambert (16 points) and Byron Bekker (11 points) the Saints went down 48-43 to the Newport Hornets but in doing so claimed a league point due to the narrow margin of victory.

The hope of any league points had looked to be slipping away from the Saints but race wins in the last three races, including a double-points tactical ride from Lambert in heat 13, made sure the side didn't go home pointless.

After the meeting Team Manager Malcolm Vasey felt his side could have won the meeting with a little luck but did confess "I guess on the balance the result was a fair one and it is nice to claim a point away from home. Every rider contributed and with us only just claiming a league point every single point was invaluable".

The Saints are on their travels again next Friday when they face the long trip down to Plymouth to face the Devils before they face King's Lynn in the first leg of the Knockout Cup at the Eddie Wright Raceway, as the second part of a double-header, on Friday 10th July (start time 7pm).
