Rebecca Ross masters the Manda

Market Rasen Golf Club, Ladies Section

The Manda Cup, a singles matchplay knockout competition has been played throughout the early season by Market Rasen’s golfing ladies, concluding in a final between Bridget Holmes and Rebecca Ross last Thursday.

Bridget beat Jenny Holmes to claim her place in the final and Rebecca beat Liz Wride. Overall winner was Rebecca Ross 2 and 1.

A very competitive match was played by both ladies, Bridget claiming 2 birdies along the way and Rebecca playing solid golf until the notorious 15th hole when Bridget started to claw back at Rebecca's one time lead of 4 holes.

The 16th also saw Rebecca falter when she was caught by the tricky greenside bunker, however, the 17th halved in a par 4 assured Rebecca of the Trophy.

The previous day saw the Newstead Trophy, a Par Competition. The 'tricky format' which requires the players to 'beat the course' was successfully mastered by Margaret Rylatt, the winner beating the course by +3 and reducing her handicap to 26. Second, on countback, was Celia Lancaster also reducing her handicap to 35, 3rd Rosemarie Lawton with +2 and 4th Ann Dodds also +2.
