Market Rasen & Louth 1st XV 19 Matlock 1st XV 19

Rugby returned to Market Rasen at the weekend and a pre-season friendly gave the red and greens the opportunity to test themselves against opposition from the league above.

With it being a bank holiday weekend and the cricket season still underway, neither side were able to field their strongest starting line ups, but apart from the absence of a regular hooker, there was little disruption to the Rasen forwards whilst the backline had an unfamiliar look about it with veteran scrum half Andy Neesham partnering winger Peter Everton in the centre with winger Chris Green filling in at fullback.

Matlock started the stronger with their mauling forwards keeping the ball tight and driving Rasen backwards, but an early turnover found its way into the hands of Peter Everton who showed the visitors a clean pair of heels and sprinted around a bemused defence to score under the posts, leaving an easy conversion for debutante fly half Owen Donovan.
