DE ASTON’S young equestrian team fared well at their first national competition final.

The team, which was one of only two teams from Lincolnshire to compete at the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) National Final at Addington in Buckinghamshire, consisted of Kurt Roddy (11) riding Carriad, Charlotte Emmerson (13) riding Black Diamond and Africa Walker (12) riding Golden Dancer.

De Aston was the only school to field a team of three, whilst all the other schools had the luxury of a discard score for their 4th rider as only 3 scores counted.

The team rode well and finished on a core of only 8 faults, but missed out on qualification for the evening final by just one fault.

The team finished 11th out of 21 schools nationally.

Considering the De Aston team was newly formed this September and qualified first time out, team manager Sandra Johnston-Murphy was proud of the team who “took the atmosphere and the championship in their stride.”

“It was a great experience for the children, who did a great job in representing the school and their county and it was also a good learning curve for the organisers,” she said.

“We are now set to make a great impression for next year’s championships and hope that we can get more sponsors on board and teams out for the qualifiers in the 2012 season.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the riders, the trainers, the parents and the sponsors for all their support and effort and a special thank you to the Faldingworth Equestrian Centre for providing us with a fantastic training facility.”

Anyone who is at the school and would be interested in riding for the school team can get an application form from the school reception.
