Team on parade to town fundraising event

MEMBERS of De Aston Equestrian team will be parading through Market Rasen this Saturday, September 15.

Heading off from The Chase in King Street at 9.30am, the horses and riders will go through the streets en route to the town’s Tesco store for a fundraising event.

Last year, the team managed to raise a whopping £340 at this same event, which went towards providing equipment, subsidising training and funding two, six-week training course for the Grass Roots team.

And with the success of the GB equestrian teams at London 2012, team manager Sandra Murphy hopes Market Rasen will turn out to support their home-grown team, currently regional champions and possible future Olympians.

“Most of the children on the Grass Roots team do not own their own ponies, but have been given the opportunity to ride as part of their school experience,” said Sandra, who is the NSEA Regional Grass Roots Coordinator. This allows those who have a natural ability to be nurtured and to go on to become competent riders.

“It would be really great if Market Rasen could come out and support their school team, as you never know if there is a future Olympic star in the making unless the riders are supported at this grass root level.”
