AN IMPRESSIVE seven pupils from a Market Rasen karate club have gained black belts during a residential training course.

Members of the Tamae East Coast Shotokan Club, based at De Aston Sports Centre, took part in the English Shotokan Academy course held in Shropshire.

Andy Marrow, Chris Hutchinson, Ryan Husak, John Beevers, Adam Young and Steve Nelson all gained black belts.

And 13-year-old Ben Walkley - who took his first grading in 2006 when he was just seven years old – has passed his cadet black belt.

Club instructor Roger Hooton – who was one of the people leading the course - is thrilled.

He said: “It’s the first time the club has had this many black belts graduating in one session. It’s absolutely brilliant.”

Rogers said club members have been preparing for the black belt exams for a year and a half – and now their hard work has paid off.
