The Olympic legacy lives on in the Market Rasen area.

With the success of the GB equestrian team, there has been a surge in interest of youngsters wanting to compete.

Now, thanks to funding from the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, more budding riders will get the chance to see what they can do.

Children and Young People officer Lucy Blakey went along to Horseworld in Osgodby to officially present the De Aston Equestrian team with £744, which will be used to deliver 12 weeks of training sessions.

The money has come from the Sportivate funding, through Sport England and the National Lottery.

“This is an ideal use of the funding,” said Lucy.

Sportivate targets clubs and organisations looking for financial support to run events for semi-sporty young people looking to take part in sport.”

“Sessions will be open to anyone from De Aston, whether part of the equestrian team or not, who wants to progress their riding skills,” added team manager Sandra Johnston Murphy.

A further £432 has been awarded from the same fund for grassroots training at Scamblesby, aimed at those without their own horse.

Vida Carter took over Horseworld four months ago and is delighted with the progress the De Aston team is making.

“We are keen to encourage young people to come down and experience horses and this is what the De Aston team does, as well as the many pony clubs that use our facilities,” she said.
