Head of the River best ever

The annual River Ancholme Head of the River Race saw the best entry ever take to the river in the event hosted by the Ancholme Rowing Club from their clubhouse in Manley Gardens.
Rowers competed in time trials on a 2800 metre course, starting at Broughton Bridge and ending at the M180 bridge. Crews then rowed back to the clubhouse.
There were categories for veterans and young skullers and the range of boats included singles, pairs, and quads.
The banks of the river were lined with spectators for the morning and afternoon races, and Ancholme members were out in force to officiate and lay on refreshments for their visitors.
Although Ancholme did not figure highly in the final winners, there were some excellent performances not least by the women’s four pictured.
