Another championship qualifying success for Eventer Darbi

AFTER recently qualifying for the National Schools Equestrian Association Showjumping National Championships at Bishop Burton, riding for De Aston School, Market Rasen, Darbi Murphy (15) and her six-year-old, homebred horse Jessie’s Lovely Tinker have done it again by qualifying for the Pony Club National Championships at the Area 6 Novice Eventing held in Stamford.

The event was held in the grounds of the world famous Burghley House, where the best event riders of 17 pony clubs in the Area - stretching from North Lincolnshire to Cambridgeshire and across to Derbyshire - competed for a place at the Novice Eventing National Championships to be held at Kelsall Hill in Cheshire.

Darbi achieved her personal best in the dressage phase on Jessie. Darbi said, “my dressage was always my weakness, however Jessie and I are now starting to get it together thanks to Lara”.

Competing individually as well as part of the Brocklesby Pony Club Novice Eventing Team, Darbi and Jessie carried their dressage score of 31.4 through to the showjumping phase and ended on a clear round well within the time allowed, going into the cross country phase with nothing to add.

The cross country course was built up to height - very technical and challenging, with several jumps worthy of an intermediate track. However, the pair negotiated them confidently and professionally to finish the course well within the optimum time, to gain an individual first place.

Along with Darbi, the other Brocklesby Pony Club Team members - Milly Petchell, who also won her section, Ella Fraser, second in her section and Lewis Aitchinson - will all go through to the National Championships.
