The Irishman, who lives in Wragby, competed at Derby in the Midlands Heavyweight Hammer Pentathlon and One-handed Hammer Championships.

The pentathlon sees competitors throw five hammers - starting with a 10kg then 12.5kg, 15.88kg.19.05kg and finally a 25.4kg monster.

The scores are added up and the furthest total distance wins.

Jim’s total was 34.08m, enough for the title and an Irish record.

The one-handed hammer event saw Jim put 1.5m onto his personal best, throwing 15.21m for another title and national record.

“This season just gets better and better,” Jim said.

“I’ve trained extremely hard this winter and I am now reaping the rewards.

“Take it from me, hard work pays off.”
