Caistor athlete helps county cadets win regional title

A 14-year-old Caistor girl has helped Lincolnshire Army Cadets Force (ACF) to become regional athletics champions.

The Lincolnshire ACF competed at Boston’s Princess Royal Sports Arena against cadets from six other counties.

Izzy Keyworth, from Caistor Detachment, won the junior girls shot putt and will now represent her region at the ACF National Athletics at the Meres Stadium, in Grantham, on Saturday, June 11.

Lincolnshire ACF spokesman Bill Thompson said: “Izzy performed brilliantly on Sunday. Apart from winning the shot putt, she also brought us valuable points when coming second in the discus.

“It was very fitting that she collected the regional trophy on the team’s behalf.”

At Grantham, Izzy will compete against some of the best Army Cadet athletes from England and Scotland.

Eastern Region are the current national champions and will be very keen to retain their title.
