One further hurdle before race hurdles cleared

Sunday, 4pm: THE RACE meeting this Friday, June 26, will be another all hurdles fixture, with the return of steeplechases following drainage work delayed by a further eight days.

The racecourse made the decision, sanctioned by the British Horseracing Authority, after consultation with Course Inspector Nicky Carlisle who was at Market Rasen for last Friday's meeting.

That was the second meeting sanctioned as an all hurdles card to allow for essential drainage work, which began at the end of April, to take place.

Clerk of the course Nick Patton said: "The drainage work has been successful, but some of the areas have not seeded as well as we hoped. We want to be more than 100 per cent happy with our racing surface and the extra time will allow us to carry out extra irrigation on the affected area.

"We've had very little rainfall in the last fortnight and that has not worked in our favour. It's now hoped to restore steeplechases to Market Rasen on Sunday 5 July.

June 26 remains a seven race card with the first race due off at 2.10pm.
