Norburn bowls Middle Rasen to Woodhall Spa win

Following a run of disappointing results, Middle Rasen welcomed Lincoln and District Sunday League high-flyers Woodhall Spa.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl on an interesting wicket. Backed by their ECB professionals this looked a good choice as Middle quickly lost four wickets.

But with a bit of rebuilding and then big swiping at the end by Zac Metcalfe (16) and Todd Wray (15), Middle scraped to 79 all out.

The home side knew early wickets would be key and succeeded taking three in the first three overs, leaving the visitors in the same boat as Middle had found themselves in earlier in the day.

But as the hosts had also done, Woodhall Spa rebuilt with Jack Luffman (25) taking the score to 54 and looking comfortable before falling lbw to Dan Norburn who went on to claim a brilliant five-for (10-31-5).

This sparked the end of the Woodhall’s reply as tight overs from T. Wray (2 for 10) and Will Bradford (2 for 2) brought Woodhall’s innings to an end on 63.

A superb 16-run victory and a valuable 20-point haul in Middle’s fight to stay in the Premier League.

They remain sat in the bottom two, but narrowed the gap on Lindum to just three points.

Middle next take their winning momentum to Boston on Sunday.
