The Olympic Legacy came to Market Rasen when De Aston School Equestrian Team hosted a six-week Sportivate Showjumping Training programme.

Local youngsters, Natasha Crawford, Emily Childs, Dannii Blanch, Darbi Murphy, Charlotte Emmerson and Molly Metcalfe took part in this Lincolnshire Sports Partnership (LSP) initiative, which is intended to encourage young people to get involved in sports across the region.

The programme was delivered by Equestrian Coach Amy Miller (BHSAI).

“I’ve been really impressed with all the riders attitudes, and willingness to improve,” she said.

“I’ve loved working with the children during the showjumping programme.

“I’m really looking forward to delivering the Sportivate Dressage programme coming up.“

The Dressage programme will again run over six weeks and will be held at Hartsvalley Equine in Osgodby’s Sand Lane.

It will be structured to provide a high level of tuition, clear progression and a positive exit route.

The training programme will introduce techniques and skill which can be used practically in the show ring and also in the future.

And because of the funding it has made the cost of training minimal, therefore making it accessible to all.

Sandra Murphy, who organised the programme, said: “It’s great to see these children learning new skills and putting them into practise in such a rewarding way.

“Many of them will now go on to compete as individuals on their own horses, some will continue to ride at their local riding schools and others will go on to compete for the school teams.

“It has been a fantastic course which has made full use of the funding from the National Lottery and Sport England and, with the help of the LSP, I hope that we can continue to offer these courses for the young people of Market Rasen.”

The next round of courses starts in September and if you are between 11 and 25 and would like to take part contact Lucy Blakey, Lincolnshire Sports Partnership on 01522 585580 for more details.
