Market Rasen Rugby Club’s 2nd XV took the spotlight this weekend as the 1sts were without a game.
And the Red and Greens second string made it three wins from their last three matches with a friendly victory against Dinnington 2nd XV at Willingham Road on Saturday.
Rasen ran out 20-12 winners, debutante Reuben Swift scoring an impressive hat trick of tries with Ross Jaw Barr adding a fourth, gaining revenge for a 26-19 defeat at the home of the Yorkshire club back in October.
Last weekend Rasen 2nds travelled to Peterborough 2nds and racked up a 17-23 win. It was even better a week earlier at home to local rivals Grimsby 2nds, who didn’t even get a point on the board as Rasen ran out 25-0 winners.
Rasen’s 2nds are without a game this weekend, but will be hoping to take their impressive friendly form into their next Notts Pennant League encounter away at Derby 2nd XV on Saturday March 8.
Market Rasen’s 1st XV return to Midlands South League action this Saturday when they travel to face Leicestershire side Coalville.
Coalville sit bottom with only four points, but, as Rasen found when they travelled to face lowly Peterborough earlier this month and came away with nothing, points in this league are not to be taken for granted and anyone be on the end of a shock defeat.
Newark sit just two points ahead of Rasen and face the same Peterborough team still celebrating their win over the red and greens.
Rasen then welcome second placed Derby to Willingham Road on March 8.
