Oakham 1st XV 8 Market Rasen & Louth 1st XV 10

IN the wind of Oakham, the red and greens nearly came unstuck against their determined hosts in an enthralling match with few scoring opportunities.

Rasen began brightly through their forwards, but an early infringement allowed Oakham to move up field and mount their first attack.

It was clear from the outset that Oakham were undaunted by the league leaders as they mixed up their game using both forwards and backs.

Having pulled the Rasen pack towards one touchline, Oakham switched the ball back the other way along their backline to the winger who was in the clear.

The Rasen defence had stalled momentarily, believing a low adjustment by one of the centres had been a knock on before the winger scored.

The referee thought otherwise and Oakham were ahead in the fourth minute.

This early score had a detrimental effect on the usually confident Rasen side as passes went astray, tackles were missed and the turnover count escalated as the home side seemed to be a yard quicker to the ball.
