Pip Kirkby, General Manager of Market Rasen Racecourse, keeps Rasen Mail readers up to date with news from Lincolnshire’s only race track.

Redevelopment on schedule

The biggest development in 11 years at the racecourse is set to be completed next month.

The £800,000 investment by our parent company, The Jockey Club, will offer the racecourse greater capacity in the most popular enclosure, Tattersalls. The Tote Exacta bar is being doubled in size too.

The work is scheduled to finish in early December, well in time for our traditional Boxing Day fixture which has averaged 9,000 spectators since the turn of the millennium.

Winners in 2015

The racecourse will stage 22 fixtures in 2015 – one more than this year.

We are still the busiest Sunday racecourse in Britain, offering great family days out on no fewer than seven occasions. And, for the first time, we race during every month of the year.

There is a new fixture on Saturday 17 October, the same date as QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot Racecourse.

2015 fixture list: January, Thursday 15; February, Tuesday 3 and Sunday 15; March, Sundays 8 and 22; April, Easter Monday 6 and Sunday 12; May, Friday 8 and Sunday 17; June, Fridays 5 and 19; July, Sunday 5 and Saturday 18; August, Sunday 2 and Saturday evening 15; September, Saturday 26; October, Monday 5 and Saturday 17; November, Thursdays 5 and 19; December, Thursday 3 and Boxing Day Saturday 26.

Grand National Mail

A race was run in the name of the Market Rasen Mail at the successful Remembrance Sunday fixture which was supported by The Solders Charity.

The ‘Rasen Mail Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase’ was won by the 7-2 co-favourite Cloudy Bob, ridden by Crabbie’s Grand National-winning jockey Leighton Aspell.

Win Boxing Day tickets

Ticket sales for our big Boxing Day meeting – which includes the running of the famous Clugston Lincolnshire National – are racing ahead. Starting from £6.75 in advance for adults, they offer great value.

We have a pair of adult Tattersalls tickets to be won by one lucky reader. To be in with a chance of winning, answer the following question and email your answer to marketrasen@jockeyclubracecourses.com by 9am on Wednesday 26th November.

What is the name of the parent company of Market Rasen Racecourse?

The Boxing Day meeting is a great day out for the whole family (accompanied children go free!), including a visit by Santa Claus and a Christmas jumper competition. Book tickets online at www.marketrasenraces.co.uk.

On course for annual badge

It looks certain that the racecourse’s 50,000th visitor in 2014 will come through the gates on Christmas Food & Gift Fair day on Thursday 4 December. He or she will receive an annual badge for all the track’s meetings in 2015.
