MARKET Rasen and District Golf Club recently hosted its 24th Annual Ladies Pro-Am Tournament in conjunction with the Lincolnshire PGA – the second of only two such events in Lincolnshire.
The tournament was played in perfect conditions and this was reflected in the results which were excellent.
In the Professional’s Individual Medal the winner was Stephen Bennett from Waltham Windmill Golf Club, who carded a magnificent five under par 65, just one short of his own course record which he shot in 2008.
Also recording scores under par were second placed Dan Clarke, with 67, and third placed Paul Bradshaw from the Ping Golf Academy.
These three professionals are continuing their own tussle in the ongoing PING Order of Merit for the season with Dan, Paul and Stephen now lying 5th, 6th and 7th respectively.
In the team event, regular competitors from Bondhay Golf Club, near Worksop, were victorious. Led by their lady professional, Becky Davies, Joelle Davies, Jenny Davies and Vicky Clark accumulated a very creditable 14 under par 130 in the 2-out-of-4 Medal.
Just four shots separated the five placed teams – Jo Cobley, Jane Crooks and Sally Moore with Scott Emery their professional from Woodhall Spa were second, with 131, and Sandra Lloyd, Kay Lobley and Michelle Lingard with their winning Professional Stephen Bennett from Waltham Windmill were third, with 132.
In fourth place was Paul Streeter’s team from Lincoln Golf Centre, with 132, and a second team from Bondhay, led by Justin Fores, were fifth, with 134.
The professional nearest the pin on the 18th hole was Becky Davies from Bondhay, who was unable to repeat her hole-in-one of last year, and the amateur prize went to Pat Crabtree, also from the successful Bondhay Golf Club.
Next year’s event will be on Wednesday, August 15, and will be a celebration of Market Rasen Golf Club’s centenary year.
