NEWCOMER Sue Lambert won the top prize at this year’s Ladies Golf Championship Day.
Sue, who only joined Market Rasen Golf Club last autumn, has enjoyed a fantastic season and is now the new champion after playing 36 holes in one day at the event on July 27. She played the two rounds in a commendable 176 shots.
Second gross was Tilly Lawrence with 180 and third Bridget Holmes with 182. Best gross in the morning was Ann Todd with 89 and best gross in the afternoon was Aileen Sellars with 96.
The winner of the nett Trophy was another newcomer Helen Grinham with 141. Helen has enjoyed a great deal of success and handicap reductions since joining the club last year. In second place was Sue Archer with 145 and third place went to Gill Kent who scored 155.
The Starbuck Trophy played on the same day over 18 holes was won by Ronnie Sullivan with nett 72 from Lorna Moore on countback. Sally White won third place with 74.
Earlier in the same week the finals of the Manda Cup took place - a singles matchplay knock out. In the semi finals Jenny Brundle beat Bridget Holmes and Sue Lambert beat Jackie Parker. In the final Sue Lambert beat Jenny Brundle on the seventeenth hole.
Market Rasen Ladies are celebrating a double victory with both county league teams having a very successful season. The A team topped Division 3 North and the B Team topped Division 5 North. The teams will advance next season to Division 2 North and Division 4 North respectively.
