Two wins and a third place at Donington Park at the weekend extend Phil Crowe’s position at the head of the championship table in the Thundersport GP1 Class.

Phil, from Market Rasen, began Saturday’s race from the second row, but on a cold tyre he soon found himself in the gravel at Redgate on the first lap. Luckily there was a red flag for another crash and he was able to get the bike back to the pit garage for rapid repairs before the restart.

With the race reduced to 10 laps Phil made no mistake this time and rode through to a strong third place finish. This gave him a second row start in Sunday’s first race.

As the lights went out for the first race on Sunday Phil settled into second place on the first lap. But race leader Michael Dunlop, who was testing for the TT, pulled out with bike problems gifting the race lead to Phil who powered the BMW through the remaining eight laps to cross the finish line for his first win of the weekend.

The final race went well for Phil who took the lead at the start and extended it throughout the 14 laps to cross the finish line a massive 30 seconds ahead of Kingsley Ruddy. He also set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1m 24.432s - 84.38mph.

Phil said: “I am happy with this set of results and pleased to extend my championship lead. It was nice to welcome my sponsor for the TT Ian Royles of SheffPack who came over from Sheffield to watch me race. Three top results made a good impression.”
