THE first men’s competition of the year took place at Market Rasen and District Golf Club in glorious sunshine.
The Spring Medal attracted a field of 110 and the top eight places were separated by only one shot, resulting in the prize winners being separated on count-back.
Playing in the first group, junior member Luke Robinson (14 handicap) was the long time leader with a nett score of 68, but he was eventually pushed in to second position by John Doughty playing off 15, who also recorded 68 but had a better back nine holes score.
Six players recorded scores of 69, including two more junior members, Tom Hall and Jamie Codd. However, count-back meant that third place went to John Sidebottom playing off 21 and fourth to Pete Nash playing off 22.
The best gross score of 77 was recorded by yet another junior, Liam Beardsley.
The course was in excellent condition for the time of year, though a rainy spell would be most welcome for the greenkeepers, and the success of the junior members bodes very well for the future of the club.
