The crowds are set to pour into Market Rasen on Saturday for the biggest day of the year at the racecourse.

Every year the racecourse is close to capacity for the Betfred Summer Plate and the Journal Ladies’ Day on what is one of its most popular racing days.

The £50,000 Betfred Summer Plate is the feature contest on a day when the prize-money runs into six figures.

Top horses from across Britain will be heading to Lincolnshire for the two major races, the Betfred-sponsored Summer Plate, a steeple chase, and Summer Hurdle.

Betfred Summer Plate day always produces a story, and 12 months ago the now retired 20-time champion jump jockey Tony McCoy equalled the number of career winners trained by former trainer Martin Pipe.

In 2002, the remarkable jockey achieved his best record for winners on a day at the fixture: five from seven races.

Fashion will be to the fore, too, with fashion shows from 1.30pm and fantastic prizes for the best-dressed visitors, and Tom Weston singing live.

There will also be trade stands, show girls on stilts and a bouncy castle for the youngsters.

Racecourse general manager Nadia Gollings said: “This is an amazing time at Market Rasen Racecourse. Betfred Summer Plate and Journal Ladies’ Day is drawing in a big crowd and we’re set for a great day’s racing and entertainment.”

Saturday’s meeting starts at 1.45pm, with gates opening two hours before.

Admission for adults is from £9 in advance, with all accompanied under 18s getting in free of charge.
