Spectators are preparing to descend on Market Rasen Racecourse for one of the county’s biggest sporting days out of the year.

For many people in Lincolnshire, Boxing Day is a once-a-year chance to enjoy a traditional festive afternoon of racing at the county’s only racecourse.

The average crowd for the meet over the last 15 years has been just shy of 10,000.

As well as a packed six-race programme of jump racing on Saturday, including the annual Clugston Lincolnshire National, there will be a bouncy castle, a rodeo Christmas pudding and lots more.

Adult tickets can be bought on the gate on Boxing Day or in advance at a discounted price at www.marketrasenraces.co.uk or by telephone on 0844 579 3009. Free admission for accompanied under 18s.

The first race is scheduled for 12.25pm and the finale is at 3.20pm. Gates open at 10.25am and spectators are advised to arrive early.

Visitors are also asked to follow the well-established Boxing Day traffic management plan –

From Lincoln: Take the A158 (Skegness) road and fork left at Bullington (signed), following the directional signs via Holton-cum-Beckering and Bleasby.

A46 northbound to Market Rasen: Light traffic is recommended to turn right in Faldingworth and to follow the diversions via Buslingthorpe.

A46 southbound and from Grimsby: Follow signs on to the B1225 (Caistor High Street), and the yellow signage via North Willingham and Sixhills.

A15 southbound: Turn left at Caenby Corner and follow signs.

Parking, with the exception of the picnic car park, is free, and preferential parking areas are provided near the entrances for disabled Blue Badge holders.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics into the car parks and into the Family Enclosure, but food and drink may not be brought into any other areas of the racecourse.
