Market Rasen jockey Duran Fentiman had his ninth winner of the season at Thirsk last week after a slightly lean month, writes Peter Thompson.
Fentiman had several rides on placed horses but could not quite getting into the winner’s spot until Thirsk.
He was on board the Tim Easterby-trained Medina Sidonia in a one-mile four-furlong handicap for three-year-olds.
Held up in the rear early on, Fentiman pushed his mount along from halfway, and was close up two furlongs out before riding out into the lead and staying on strongly.
Sent off as the 13/8 favourite, the win will have delighted the Malton yard of the leading northern trainer where Fentiman is based.
The former De Aston School student also rode a couple of third places with Your Holiday is Over for trainer Patrick Holmes, and on board On a Par at Carlisle, another Easterby saddled horse. Both were 13/2 shots.
