Market Rasen Golf Club ladies hosted their ever-popular annual open am-am competition last week which was again over-subscribed.

The home team of Sheilah Mitchell, Sylvia Mowbray, Rebecca Ross and Joy Purkiss finished well clear of the rest of the field with a score of 87.

Runners-up H. Calvert, R. Simpson, A. Wallhead and Y. Schaffer, of Boston GC, finished eight shots back in second on countback from Market Rasen team Kim Robinson, Sue Borthwick, Jackie Parker and Jenny Holborn.

Liz Wride, L. Bray, S. Adjel, Aileen Sellars were fourth, also on 79, and the combined Market Rasen-Waltham Windmill team of M. Gregory, L. Brewer, S. Smith, and S. Rawlins were fifth on 78. The Rasen team of Helen Wilson, Sue Archer, Helen Grinham and Lynne Patrick completed the top six, also with 78.

Sponsors Soper BMW provided prizes of a BMW Car for the weekend which went to Gill Kapka (Cleethorpes GC) for the longest drive.

Market Rasen golfer Ruth Anyan won a weekend away as the nearest the pin prize on the 12th, but the prize of a new Mini Cooper, also provided by sponsors Soper BMW, for a hole-in-one on the 18th went unclaimed.

Only 16 players out of a field of 160 players managed to hit the green with their drive at the tricky par three 18th.

* A hole-in-one was scored the previous week on club championship day at the fifth Hole by Sharman Scott.

The ladies helped Sharman celebrated with a glass of well-earned wine.
