Market Rasen angling: Roy and Jim set for winner-takes all finale

Only eight brave anglers turned out on Sunday for the latest in Market Rasen Angling Association's series of league matches.

The Keyline sponsored Winter Aggregate Shield League and the semi-finals of the Knockout Challenge Shield were held in rain and a strong easterly wind, making the fishing extremely difficult and low weights were the order of the day.

The all-in came at 9.30am and it seemed the weather decided to also throw all it had at the anglers, with many of them struggling to get decent bait presentation with such a strong tow on the lake.

After the finish was called, it was once again a win for Roy Bentley, fishing peg 20 on the pole, who used pinkies for bait to weigh in with 3lb 12oz,

Sam Appleyard, fishing the waggler from peg 32, took a good second place with 2lb 13oz, and Stuart Cash was third from peg 29 with a weight of 2lb 9oz, including a nice 2lb-plus bream.

The Knockout Challenge Shield semi-finals saw Jim Kelham win his match convincingly and Roy Bentley beat Stuart Cash.

Roy is now the only angler who can prevent league leader Jim Kelham from winning the title. He trails by just two points going into the final match on Sunday, February 26 when the pair go head-to-head for the league and the Shield.

Draw is 8.30am with the match running from 9.30am to 2.30pm. All members welcome to fish.
