Brigg Hockey Club Men’s 1st team maintained their much improved form journeying home with a valuable point following the long trip to Huddersfield Dragons for their North League encounter.

There were plenty of goals in the game, for after the home side took an early 2-0 lead, Brigg fought back to earn their share of the spoils in a 3-3 final result.

Brigg seemed to have travelled badly going 2-0 down in the first 10 minutes. A dribble by the home forward and a shot across the circle was forced home at the far post as the home side opened the scoring. They doubled their lead at a short corner that was deflected high into the top corner of the net.

Brigg got one goal back when Harry Cadwallader netted and then Andrew Morris produced a testing cross that was turned in by Will Taylor at the far post. Brigg were on terms.

Taylor has made a difference since joining the club from Nottingham national league side Beeston after the Christmas break. There were no further goals before the half time break and the 2-2 interval scoreline was a fair reflection on the balance of play.

Dragons came out breathing fire at the start of the second half and Brigg had to dig deep to defend their lead. Another player to have joined the club in the second half of the season is defender Ed Hutley who was previously with East League side Wisbeach Town. He played a key role at the heart of the Brigg defence.

Brigg though did put themselves under more pressure than need have been, through some clumsy tackles with Simon Dixon, Andrew Morris and Ollie Reid all receiving yellow cards meaning temporary suspensions.

As the game entered it’s last 10 minutes, Brigg managed to break away and take a 3-2 lead through Ollie Reid, but it was not the end of the scoring as Huntley was distinctly unlucky to give away a late own goal to bring the score back to 3-3.

Brigg 2nds won 5-4 at home to City of York 3rd team, the scorers being David Baggott and Zac Meadows with two each and Josh Kirk.

Brigg 4th lost 6-0 to Lincoln 2nd.
