Both Brigg Hockey Club 1st teams had good wins at the weekend.

The Mens 1st Xl made the long journey to the North East to play Marten Furness in North League 2. They returned with a 4-0 win under their belt against the league’s bottom club.

Two goals from Ollie Reid and one each from Zac Meadows and Andrew Reid gave them a comfortable victory. Brigg took the lead in the first half through Andrew Reid, who put the finishing touches to a smart counter attack.

Half time saw a snowstorm sweep over the pitch and threaten an abandonment, but thankfully the weather improved when the sun came out in time for the second half to get underway.

All Brigg’s goals came in open play, Ollie Reid’s reverse stick effort and Meadow’s ability to finish off the best move of the match put the game beyond the home side.

Brigg Men’s 1st have a double header this weekend being at home to Richmond on Saturday followed by a trip to Huddersfield on Sunday. Defender Simon Dixon was Brigg’s man of the match.

Brigg Ladies 1st team had a 2-1 home win against Harrogate at Brumby Hall, the goals coming from Sarah Mason and Alisha Hanson. Both came from set piece short corner routines, though Mason’s effort was handily deflected wide of the ‘keeper by a defender.

Harrogate equalised before half time only for Hanson’s drag flick shot at a short corner to restore Brigg’s lead in the second half.

Brigg Men’s 2nd lost 3-1 at home to Ben Rhydding 3rd from Ilkley. Andrew Morris scored a late consolation for Brigg after they had fallen behind by three earlier goals from the West Yorkshire side.

Brigg Ladies 2nds lost 2-1 to Leeds 4th team while Brigg Men’s 3rds surrendered a 3-1 advantage to lose 4-3 against Barnsley. Brigg goals came from Ian Slowey, Josh Kirk and Peter Spittlehouse. Brigg Men’s 4th lost a morning game away at Rotherham by 7-1.
