GRASBY Primary has won the Small Primary Schools Sportshall Athletics Level 3 School Games Competition.

The youngsters were among 72 athletes from across the county who took part in the competition held in Grantham

After a morning of track and field competitions Grasby Primary emerged victorious, much to the delight of everyone concerned.

Thomas Christie, Year 6, said: “I think we did brilliant especially in the field events.

“Everyone in our team tried really hard and lots of the team achieved their personal bests in events.

“I really enjoyed the vertical jump and found the 4 x 1 the hardest.”

Grasby achieved a massive 212 points to secure their place as Lincolnshire’s Sportshall Athletics School Games County Champions.

Teacher Mrs Rowland added: “I am absolutely delighted with the children’s performance today. I thought they could achieve as they have been working so hard with a particular focus on the field events.”

And all those taking part were praised for their sportsmanship.

“What a fantastic day. The buzz and excitement around the whole event was amazing,” said Gareth Short, School Games Project Officer at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.

“All credit to the athletes involved - when they were performing they really pushed themselves to succeed, and when they were not taking part they were raising the roof with the noise they were making for their team mates.”

Level 3 School Games Competitions will be taking place across the county in a variety of sports.

The programme of events will culminate in a multi-sport festival in Lincoln on Wednesday, June 27.
