With Market Rasen Golf Club’s course in tip-top, but challenging, condition the latest competitions have brought mixed fortunes.

85 gents contested the Torrens Bowl with the morning competitors in this popular Stableford going off two tees and facing the worst of the day’s weather.

By the afternoon conditions had improved and the eventual winners all came from this group. Mike Beddoes, although scoring 39 points was edged out of fifth place on countback by Graham Pearce, and he too was edged out by Junior Charlie Hinchliffe (4th) and Richard Everett (3rd) on the same points.

Defending Trophy holder Junior Luke Parkinson held the lead on 40 points until, an hour later, Robert Crowe turned in a card just one shot better on the back 9 to steal the title.

A week later the Foursomes Medal Carter Cup early birds turned up to a course which had to be closed due to flooding after the tremendous storms of the day and night before.

By contrast, 20 mixed pairs played a Greensome Medal for the Banovallum Bowl on a glorious, sunny afternoon. Current holders Pete and Aileen Sellars were not in the mix so the competition was fierce.

Centenary Captains Richard and Bridget Holmes turned in a gross score of 83, beating Gaff and Liz Elliott by just one shot to the best gross prize.

Past winners Mike and Sue Archer were in the lead with nett 67.6 until the very last pair, late entrants Richard Marshall and Helen Wilson, carded a nett 67.2 and were presented with the Trophy by Men’s Captain Graham Dolan.
