YOUNG people in Market Rasen are being given the chance to gain qualifications and develop through sport.
Lincolnshire Sports Partnership has joined forces with CG Partnership, which has learning centres in Market Rasen, Gainsborough and Mablethorpe, to work with young people aged 16 – 18 who are not in education, employment or training.
CG Partnership will work with Lincolnshire Sports Partnership’s Sport Makers programme to encourage individuals to take part in sports volunteering to help the local community and encourage more people to be active.
The young people will also gain OCN qualifications for free from CG Partnership through the programme.
Lizzie Couling, workforce development manager at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said: “The London 2012 Games hopes to inspire more people to be involved with sport, but that doesn’t necessarily mean actively taking part.
“Sport Makers has been launched to encourage new volunteers in Lincolnshire; people who can give their time for other people and their local community.
“This partnership with CGP means that young people who aren’t currently in education or employment can learn new skills and enhance their CVs for later life.”
Anyone aged 16 plus can register to become a Sport Maker and the aim is to recruit more than 500 new sports volunteers in Lincolnshire over the next two years.
