MARKET Rasen flat race jockey Duran Fentiman has got off to a flyer with the turf season only three weeks old.
He has already notched up two winners for trainer Tim Easterby, but one of them came in a race at Pontefract judged a dead heat.
The remarkable statistic here was that Fentiman’s horse, the six-year-old Mirrored, dead-heated with stablemate Deauville Flyer, also trained by Easterby at Malton.
Mirrored a 9-1 shot has given Fentiman winners before. This time it came in a ten horse 1m 2 furlong Class 2 race. Dead heats are rare now due to digital technology. Fentiman then got home by 1½ lengths on the four-year-old 40-1 shot Rise to Glory riding for trainer Shaun Harris in a seven furlong handicap at Newcastle.
Fentiman rides as second stable jockey at Easterby’s yard behind Dave Allen and had his best season so far in 2011 with 30 turf winners and has now stacked up a total of 85 winners from 1,315 runs in his career so far.
