STRONG winds affected the scores for the Ainsworth Trophy Mixed Competition, but it was still a very close contest at Market Rasen and District Golf Club.

The top three pairs all scored 76 and could only be separated on count-back.  Third place went to Robert Crowe and Gill Kent with John Boulton and Jenny Brundle as runners-up.

Sylvia Mowbray won the competition last year with a different partner. As her husband, Graham, was available this year, she partnered him to victory.

The gross prize went to Pete and Aileen Sellars.  Pictured is Club Captain, Pete Bray presenting the trophy to Graham and Sylvia.

The dry spell continued at the weekend and it was time for the over 50’s to try to qualify for the Ellmore Trophy.  This is a medal round where the top eight finishers go on to a knock-out stage for the trophy.

Perfect conditions meant that very low scores were recorded and the eighth qualifier carded a round of 67.

Ian Penniston finally reached his potential with a nett 63 off 26 handicap to earn a three shot handicap reduction.

The seven other qualifiers are Brian Watkinson, Tim Gosling, Andy Farrant, Graham Johnstone, Paul Olley, Paul Umpleby and John Chapman.
