Brigg racehorse trainer Nick Kent ended the year on a high note when he secured his second winner of December.

The Irish-bred Gonalston Cloud came home at 8/1 at Catterick to follow up the win by Ivan’s Back at Market Rasen a month previously.

Gonalston Cloud journeyed up the A1 from Kent’s yard at Newstead-on-the-Cadney Road to run in the Raydale Preserves Handicap Chase, a Class 4 race for four-year-olds and upwards over three miles and a furlong.

There were 17 fences to negotiate in going described as soft in the £6,800 race for which 13 runners went to post.

Adam Wedge was on board Kent’s horse who travelled well throughout.

Sitting just behind the leaders, Wedge then made his move and went into second place three from home.

He led approaching the last and stayed on well on the run-in.
