Market Rasen Angling Club members fished in the fifth leg of the Keyline/Wavin Winter League Aggregate Shield at the weekend.

11 Anglers made the draw on Sunday to resume their Winter League programme after the festive break.

On arriving for the 8.30am draw they were met with an overnight frost and also a below freezing temperature which had created a thin layer of ice showing in the shallow end of the lake.

At the all in, with the sun trying to break through and temperatures improving, albeit only slightly, they found the fishing very hard and it was quite a while into the match before fish started to be caught.

When the fish did start to feed it was Dave Humphreys, fishing from peg 9 using the method feeder with maggot for bait, who took full advantage to end the match with a winning weight of 6lb 13oz.

Second place went to the current league leader Stuart Cash, fishing on peg 24 with a weight of 4lb 11oz. Third place was claimed by Barry Death from peg 14 with 2lb 2oz.

Stuart Cash now sits in top place of the league with 20 points, six points in front of his nearest challenger.

The next match will be fished on January 26, weather permitting. Draw: 8.30am, fish: 9.30am-2.30pm, match fee £5.

Any members wishing to take part in the Winter League can do so by turning up for the 8.30am draw, all will be made welcome.
