Sunday brought the annual Market Rasen Angling Association Aggro Cup for the members to fish for, the competition originally was fished between the Carpmen and Matchmen to see who has the bragging rights for the year.

This year, with 17 members turning out, a new team was added called the OAPs for the most senior members that entered the draw. The Carpmen were defending champions and had held the bragging rights since 2010.

With exceptional weather for the time of the year the match was fished in a mixture of sunshine and cloud with a very warm slight westerly breeze.

The all in was called and the anglers found that fishing and bites would be difficult to come by with the water very clear and the fish not feeding,

Barry De’Ath, fishing for the Matchmen from peg 4, was into skimmers and bream throughout the match with him weighing in 19lb 5oz when the all out was called.

With his other team members only adding ounces this gave the Matchmen a final weight of 20lb 8oz.

Second spot went to the OAPs with a total weight of 8lb 14oz, their best weight coming from Jim Hewson from peg 6 with 3lb 4oz, and the Carpmen took third spot with 8lb 9oz, Sam Appleyard recording their best weight of 4lb exactly from peg 12.

The next match will see the anglers fish their annual Fur & Feather competition on Sunday, October 12.

Draw: 8.30 am, fish: 9.30am - 2.30pm, match fee £5.00. Any club members wishing to fish will be made most welcome, just turn up for the draw time.
