Sunday saw eight anglers turn out for the sixth match in the Market Rasen Angling Association’s winter league, and upon arriving at the lake they found that the overnight cold conditions had left most parts covered with a thin layer of ice.
A decision was then made by all the anglers, that the draw would be at 9.30am and fish the five-hour match from 10.30am through to 3.30pm, giving a chance for the wind to blow the ice away from the pegs.
At the all in the anglers found that the fish, especially the roach, were about, but bites where slow in coming, fishing on peg 11 and using the feeder method, Dave Humphreys recorded his second win of the season with a weight of 3lb 15oz.
Second place was claimed by the league leader Roy Bentley fishing pole from peg 22 with a weight of 2lb 2oz, Barry De’ath fishing the pole took third place fishing peg 25 with 1lb 12oz,
Fourth place went to Bud Chambers on the pole from peg 18 with 1lb 8oz, and the final points position was claimed by Alan Smith fishing pole from peg 16 with 11oz.
The league table with two matches left to fish see’s Roy Bentley extending his lead from Barry De’ath with Dave Humphreys claiming third spot.
The next match and the seventh leg of the Winter League will be fished, weather permitting, on Sunday, February 10. Draw: 8.30am, fish: 9.30am-2.30pm, match fee £5.
Any members wishing to take part in the Winter League can do so and will be made most welcome by turning up at the Willingham Road Lake.
