The last mid-week match, and for a change good weather, welcomed Market Rasen Angling Club’s members to Willingham Road Lake for the 8th Jackson Builders Merchant Aggregate Shield and the Cox Cup match on Thursday evening.
13 Anglers made the draw and at the all-in the angler where soon into catching fish, but after the three hour match it was Roy Bentley fishing the pole from peg 23 that won the match. His 5lb 2oz catch was made up of Skimmers and Roach and Perch.
Second spot saw two anglers in a tie with Dave Appleyard fishing peg 2, who weighed in with 4lb 10oz, and Brian Sutherland fishing peg 30, also weighing in with 4lb 10oz.
Sunday saw temperatures at their highest for the 9th leg of the Jackson Builders Merchants Aggregate Shield and the Watney Mann Cup and all of the 13 anglers were hoping to draw a peg in the shade to make the five-hour match more comfortable.
After the shout of time it was Dave Appleyard that won the match by the narrowest margin. Dave weighed in from peg 28 with a mixed bag of fish for 4lb 2oz, second place went to Bud Chambers, fishing peg 2 ,with 4lb 1oz and in third place was the league leader Barry De’Ath with 3lb 9oz from peg 17.
The Aggregate Shield points table now sees Barry De’Ath with 70 points, Bud Chambers with 64 points and Brian Sutherland with 60 points.
The next match will be fished on Sunday July 21, which will be the 10th leg of the 12 match series for the Jackson Builders Merchant Aggregate Shield and the Riggal Cup. Draw: 8am, fish 9am to 2pm.
