Market Rasen Angling Association held two events last week.
Rain and a strong north easterly wind greeted the 14 anglers at the draw for the 5th Leg Jackson Builders Merchant Summer Aggregate Shield and Conway Cup, which continued through the evening match.
And the rain got heavier, making fishing and fish hard to come by.
The match did in fact produce low weights with 12 out of the 14 anglers weighing in at 9.30pm.
But it was Brian Sutherland, fishing from peg 27, who weighed in with 2lb 2oz to narrowly win the match from the inform man Barry De’Ath, fishing peg 17 with a weight of 2lb.
Third spot went to Dave Humphreys, from peg 29 with 1lb 15oz.
The Aggregate Shield sees B De’Ath on 40 points, from B Sutherland with 31 points and D Appleyard on 30 points.
The following Sunday saw the 6th Aggregate Shield and Jack Marshall Cup.
Again, rain greeted the 13 anglers at the 8am draw, but it eased and turned into isolated showers, with periods of sunshine and warmer conditions, so the anglers were optimistic the fish would be feeding.
The all-in was at 9am and after the five-hour match it was Bud Chambers fishing, from peg 2 on the pole, who weighed in with a winning weight of 8lb 11oz.
Second place was taken by Andy Labaj on peg 26, fishing both the waggler and feeder, with a weight of 7lb 4oz, while third place was claimed by Barry De’Ath, the current leader of the league, with a weight of 7lb 0oz, fishing peg 29 on the feeder and pole.
The league standings after the anglers have reached the half way stage in the aggregate shield sees B De’Ath on 48 points, followed by B Chambers and A Labaj on 38 points.
The next match will be on Thursday evening, July 27, with the draw at 5.45pm, fishing 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
