With better weather conditions nine members of Market Rasen Angling Association turned out to fish match 8 and the final of the Keyline/Wavin Winter Aggregate Shield League on Sunday, February 23.

With the league already decided it was going to an interesting match to see which anglers would claim the minor placing and a share of the sponsorship money.

The match started at 9.30am and it was struggle for all of the anglers in getting bites. Things did pick up as the match progressed and it looked like a win once again for Ted Goulsbra, but with Bud Chambers striking into a bite with two minutes remaining of the match, which turned out to be decent bream weighing 2lb 15oz, he landed a winning weight of 4lb 7oz, taking victory by six ounces from Goulsbra, who weighed in with 4lb 1oz. Third place went to Dave Appleyard with 2lb 9oz.

The league table at the end of the series was as follows:

Stuart Cash 22 points

Ted Goulsbra 18 points

Dave Appleyard 17 points

Dave Humphreys 14 points

Barry De’Ath 13 points

Also run alongside the main match was the final of the Winter League Knockout Shield, fished between Dave Humphreys and Sam Appleyard, which turned out to be a win for Appleyard by one ounce over Humphreys.

The anglers now take a break until late April when the Summer League programme commences, but members will continue to fish every other weekend and there is a pairs match for Sunday March 9 at the Willingham Road lake, when pairs will be made up from those entered, all members are welcome to join in.

Draw: 8.30am, fish: 9.30am to 2.30pm, match fee £5.
